10 Easy Changes for Energy Efficiency in Your Home

Here are ten simple, cost effective, changes you can make that will save you money and increase the efficiency of your home.



1)      Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL).


2)      Change your furnace/air conditioner filter monthly


3)      Maintain your caulking on exterior doors and windows to reduce drafts


4)      Ensure your door and window weather-stripping is in good repair to reduce drafts


5)      Install an insulation jacket around your hot water heater / Reduce your HWH temperature to 120 degrees


6)      Program your thermostat for your at home and sleeping schedule


7)      On hot days, avoid using the oven – grill outdoors instead


8)      Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes,  Eliminate dryer use when possible


9)      Use your ceiling fans – you may be able to raise your thermostat about 4 degrees and still feel comfortable


10)  Plant trees to shade your air condition units and to provide shade around your home and grounds.  Remember to irrigate plants in early morning only.
