Check out this website to see if crime reports are available for your community... this is a very informative website that allows law enforcement agencies to share crime data with the public, in near real-time. It allows the public to access their neighborhoods, free of charge, and make informed decisions concerning safety.
Go to http://www.crimereports.com and enter an address. A map comes up and displays nearby crime report information, by block, for 15 general crime types, and 21 subcategories of crime, including assault, breaking & entering, homicide, property crime, robbery, sex offense, theft and many other categories. You may specify a period of time, specific categories to be displayed, and more on the map...the map can be zoomed in and out, from street level to community. Law enforcement agencies determine what crimes and which details of the crimes they want released to the public. Victim identification is removed and information is provided at "block level" to protect victims' identities.
The website's crime reporting currently covers about 25% of the US population through participation of about 400 law enforcement agencies. Southern Maryland law enforcement provides their information and it seems very up-to-date from what I have viewed. Per the website, most law enforcement agencies typically update their data daily.
This website is free to the public. You can even set up automatic alerts for crime reports to be delivered right to your inbox, daily, weekly or monthly. All you need is a valid address and an email address.
